Anyway, in my effort to catch up on my pictorial cataloging, below are the images from our November trip to Florida, which we spent with Samara's great-grandmother (my father's mother), Jackie. (We are still trying to come up with her great-grandmother name, but have tentatively gone with "Granny Jack." We like it!)
Among other activities, we went to Naples one day to enjoy the simply gorgeous weather and get in a little shopping, we had a seafood dinner worthy of a Michelin Star at the Ranch on another night, and later enjoyed a night of Zydeco music and crawfish etouffe in my parents' newly-remodeled kitchen after a lazy day at home. The weather remained impeccable throughout the trip, and allowed for a final evening out at Laishley Crab House, where Samara enjoyed the Florida sunset and a little more time with family before we had to leave.
One of the highlights of the trip for me, of which I unfortunately have no pictures, was a visit from a dolphin in the canal behind my parents' house. I am always missing this stuff - huge manatees hanging out by the dock, gigantic crocodiles wanted by the wildlife federation, seasonal mullet runs... I miss it all! But not this time. This time, I was up and at it, and got to see a dolphin happily making his way down the canal, jumping completely out of the water and seemingly doing tricks just for us! As we raced through the back yards to follow it, before it got too far for us to catch up, we even saw it jump into the air and do a pirouette before diving back in without so much as a splash. What an amazing thing to see! I have done the swimming-with-dolphins thing in Cancun where the trainers have the dolphins do tricks for fish, but seeing it happen in the wild, totally unprompted, is a completely different thing... Just spectacular. Ah, how I miss Florida!
